Solvent Recycling Lid Seals

The lid seal is what keeps your recycler’s cover tight against the boiler during distillation, holding solvent vapor inside where it belongs. It’s a low-cost wear part — and, along with your thermic oil, one of the two items most responsible for how well your machine runs.

A worn lid seal is one of the most common reasons a recycler “stops working like it used to.” As the seal hardens, flattens, or cracks, vapor escapes — which means lost solvent, odor, weaker recovery, and a real safety concern with flammable solvents. Replacing it is quick, cheap insurance.

In vacuum recyclers this is critical. A leaking lid seal means the unit can’t draw or hold enough vacuum to lower the solvent’s boiling point — so the material never reaches a boil and the batch won’t distill at all. If your vacuum recycler won’t pull vacuum or the solvent isn’t boiling, check the lid seal first.

Signs your lid seal needs replacing

  • You smell solvent vapor during a cycle.
  • The cover no longer seats or seals tightly.
  • The seal looks hardened, flattened, cracked, or brittle.
  • Recovery has dropped or cycles run inconsistently.
  • A vacuum unit that won’t reach or hold vacuum, so the solvent never boils.

Replace it on schedule

The lid seal takes heat and pressure every cycle, so inspect it regularly and replace it at the first sign of wear — don’t wait for a leak. Keeping a spare on the shelf means a worn seal never turns into downtime or a safety issue. A fresh seal restores a tight, positive-seal cover and protects your solvent recovery.

Fits your recycler

We stock lid seals for the Kresco / ISTpure SR-series (SR30 through SR240) and most common batch solvent recyclers. Not sure which seal your unit takes? Send us your model and we’ll match it. While you’re here, keep the rest of your wear kit stocked: recycling bags, thermic oil, and condensers.

If your unit keeps leaking or faulting even with a fresh seal and oil, it may be time to upgrade your recycler.

FAQ

How often should I replace the lid seal on a solvent recycler?
Inspect it regularly and replace it at the first sign of hardening, flattening, or cracking — don’t wait for a vapor leak. Keeping a spare on hand prevents downtime.
What happens if the lid seal is worn?
A worn seal lets solvent vapor escape, which means lost solvent, odor, reduced recovery, and a safety hazard with flammable solvents. It’s a common cause of poor distillation performance.
Why won’t my vacuum recycler pull a vacuum or start boiling?
Most often a worn or damaged lid seal. If the seal leaks, the pump can’t draw enough vacuum to lower the boiling point, so the solvent never boils and the batch won’t distill. Replace the seal and re-check before troubleshooting anything else.
Do your lid seals fit ISTpure / Kresco recyclers?
Yes — we carry seals for the Kresco/ISTpure SR-series and most batch solvent recyclers. Send us your model and we’ll confirm the right seal.
