Skipping filter changes or letting oil separators fall behind doesn’t just hurt cleaning performance; it lets sludge and oil build up in the tanks, which shortens pump and heater life and eventually forces an expensive full tank cleanout.
Below is a practical maintenance schedule based on manufacturer-recommended service intervals for Magido Spira rotary drum parts washers. Use it as a checklist for your maintenance team, or adapt the frequencies to your own duty cycle and soil load.
Daily Maintenance
- Clean the gravity filters. Most machines have multiple gravity filters (commonly 4) in the wash and rinse circuits. Clean debris out of each one daily to keep flow rates up.
- Clean the oil separator floaters. Oil separators should run continuously (always ON) to skim tramp oil off the bath surface before it recirculates onto parts. Check and clean the floaters daily so they keep working correctly.
- Clean the floating balls in the tank, which help control oil skimming.
- Grease the drum rollers — both internally (through the built-in greaser) and externally.
- Grease the support rings that the rotating drum rides on.
Weekly Maintenance
- Clean the water inlet pre-filters on both the wash and rinse water supply lines (typically 3/4″ gas connections).
- Inspect the inside of the machine through the inspection doors, and remove any screws or hardware that have worked loose and are sticking out of the drum. Loose hardware inside a rotating drum can damage the basket, nozzles, or drum lining if left unaddressed.
Every 2 Weeks
- Replace the filter bags in the wash and rinse circuits. These are typically a finer nylon mesh (around 100 micron) on the wash side and a felt bag (around 25 micron) on the rinse side — check your machine’s manual for the exact spec.
- Replace the blower filter cartridge. A clogged blower filter reduces drying performance and can strain the blower motor.
Every 3 Months
- Clean the condenser internals and replace the condenser filter kit — this includes the internal silencer and the full set of filter panels (typically 4). This keeps the drying/exhaust system running efficiently and prevents oil mist from escaping into the shop.
Whenever You Change Solution
- Clean the wash and rinse tanks.
- Clean the oil separator tanks.
- Clean the filter housings and replace the filter bags — don’t reuse old bags with fresh solution.
