A ship is steel in salt air from the day the plate arrives, and every stage of the build is a fight to prep it, coat it and keep it from rusting in between. Solvent Recycling Systems supplies shipbuilders, repair yards and marine fabricators with the equipment for each of those stages.

Follow the steel through the yard
1. Surface prep — plate, sections and components
Marine coatings only last if the steel under them is clean and profiled. Mill scale, rust and old coating have to come off before primer goes on.
What we supply: abrasive blast rooms, blast cabinets and automated blasting systems, with media recovery and dust collection. If you are sizing a room, start with the blast room buyer’s guide.
2. During the build — steel that waits
Blasted sections, piping, tanks, voids and machinery can sit for weeks or months before they are closed up or coated. Cortec VpCI vapor phase corrosion inhibitors protect them in that window: fogging and powders for tanks, voids and piping, additives for hydrotest water, films and shrink wrap for equipment staged outdoors, and emitters for electrical enclosures.
What we supply: Cortec VpCI rust prevention. See how to shrink wrap equipment for storage and the VpCI product selection guide.
3. Machinery and repair — parts that have to be clean
Engine, pump, valve and driveline components coming in for overhaul arrive coated in oil, carbon and salt. They need to be clean before inspection and reassembly.
What we supply: aqueous parts washers, including heavy-duty jet-spray cabinets for large components, and solvent parts washers.
4. Coating — guns, lines and thinner
Paint crews go through cleanup solvent quickly. Gun washers cut how much is used, and a batch recycler recovers what is left instead of sending it out as waste.
What we supply: spray gun washers, solvent recyclers and recycler bags.
5. Layup — vessels and equipment out of service
A vessel waiting on delivery, repair or the next season corrodes faster idle than working. We have a full procedure for that: vessel layup and long-term storage.
Tell us about your yard
It helps to know what you build or repair, the largest piece you need to blast, how long steel typically waits between prep and coating, and which solvents your paint crews use.
