Description
Steel shot is the solid round abrasive that hammers rather than cuts: its weight gives a heavy peening impact that cleans forgings and heat-treat scale while leaving a smooth, polished surface, and in controlled peening it imparts the compressive stress that extends the fatigue life of crankshafts, turbine blades, gears and heavy-duty springs. It is standard in blast rooms and airless wheel blasters for cleaning, polishing and finishing, and is frequently blended with steel grit. Supplied by Solvent Recycling Systems in 55 lb bags, 40-bag skids and 1,700 lb drums.

Applications
Surface polishing and finishing; shot peening for fatigue life in aircraft and vehicle components; shot-blast cleaning of forgings and castings. Runs in blast rooms with mechanical recovery, Kresco shot peening systems and wheel blasters such as the rubber belt tumble blaster. Protect peened or cleaned steel with a Cortec VpCI rust preventative until it is coated.
