Description
The Kresco SBP Series pressure blast pots (also listed as PPB-346, PPB-646 and PPB-1046) are ASME- and CRN-approved pressure vessels in three sizes — SBP-350 (3.4 cu ft, about 350 lb of media), SBP-650 (6.4 cu ft, about 650 lb) and SBP-1050 (10.4 cu ft, about 1,050 lb, single or dual operator) — built with field-replaceable valves, piping and fittings and configured with the control system, metering valve and deadman your job needs. The 350 and 650 lb pots ride on rugged rubber wheels with a handle bar for remote sites; the 1,050 lb pot is designed for indoor blasting facilities and can feed one or two operators. Use them on wheels for yard and field work, or on legs as the blast pot inside a Kresco blast room. Built to order in Quebec, Canada; supplied and supported by Solvent Recycling Systems.

Every pot has a convex top that doubles as a filling funnel, a large handhole for access to the inside of the tank, a conical bottom for even media flow, lifting eyes and a stabilizing support frame that keeps the pot from tipping. Inside a blast room the pot is usually paired with a storage hopper (6.4, 10, 30, 50 or 100 cu ft) so the media recovery system refills it automatically; see our blast room quote checklist.
Control Systems: Auto-Depress, Pressure Hold or Combo
Kresco builds the SBP with one of three pressure control systems. The suffix in the model code tells you which (DA, PC or DC):
| System | How it works | Advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auto-Depress (DA) | The deadman handle pilots a combo valve. Squeeze to pressurize and blast; release to depressurize, and the tank refills itself from the media sitting on top of the pot. | Refills automatically on standby; less wear on the metering valve; low maintenance. | Higher air consumption from pressurization losses; media flow is weak and uneven for a few seconds on each start. |
| Pressure Hold (PC) | Two manual ball valves (inlet and exhaust) hold the tank pressurized; the deadman only operates the air valve. | Higher productivity on frequent start/stop work; lower air use; even media flow from the first second. | More valve maintenance; the tank must be depressurized by hand to refill. |
| Combo System (DC) | An auto-depress circuit plus a remote switch box that lets the operator choose when the vessel depressurizes. | Both benefits with neither drawback. Kresco’s recommendation for remote sites and permanent blast booths. | None. |
Remote control: pneumatic deadman, or electric 12 V / 120 V deadman (electric pots carry a POWER ON / BLAST ON control box). Handles come in standard, D-shape and short- or long-rail G3 trigger styles, and a pneumatic-to-electric signal converter box is available for long runs. Extension hoses and cables are sold by the foot.
Abrasive metering valves: AR8 or Fina II on auto-depress and combo pots; AR8 + Booster, Corsa II or Thompson II XL on pressure-hold pots.
MaxBlast upgrade: 1-1/2″ full-flow piping
Standard pots use 1-1/4″ piping, hose and air valves. The MaxBlast upgrade moves everything to 1-1/2″. In Kresco’s test at 124 PSI inlet pressure, the standard system delivered 90 PSI at the nozzle (34 PSI loss) while MaxBlast delivered 114–117 PSI (7–10 PSI loss), a 36–40.5% productivity increase on the rule of thumb that each extra PSI at the nozzle is worth about 1.5% in blasting speed.

What’s on the Pot
- Pop-up plunger with replaceable seal (4″ plunger on SBP-350/650, 5″ on SBP-1050)
- Choice of abrasive metering valve (AR8, AR8 + Booster, Fina II, Corsa II, Thompson II XL)
- 1-1/4″ combination valve and AV-176 1-1/4″ air valve
- Air inlet with water separator and bottom drain, inline filter dirt trap for the pneumatic control circuit, flow regulator with gauge and shut-off valve; point-of-use desiccant dryers and air dryer filters available
- Exhaust muffler with ball valve
- Bilingual safety labelling; 5-1/2″ × 7-1/2″ access door with gasket
- Rugged rubber wheels and handle bar on the 350 and 650; stabilizing support frame and lifting eyes on all sizes

Hose and Nozzle Sizing
Blast hose is available in 1″, 1-1/4″ and 1-1/2″ ID (bulk or preassembled kits with Chicago couplings and nozzle holders) with long-venturi, double-venturi and angle nozzles from 3/16″ to 1/2″. Air demand is set by the nozzle, not the pot:
| Nozzle ID | 80 PSI | 100 PSI | 120 PSI |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1/4″ | 68 CFM | 81 CFM | 97 CFM |
| 5/16″ | 113 CFM | 137 CFM | 152 CFM |
| 3/8″ | 161 CFM | 196 CFM | 220 CFM |
| 7/16″ | 217 CFM | 254 CFM | 300 CFM |
| 1/2″ | 280 CFM | 338 CFM | 392 CFM |
Kresco pressure system air consumption table; 100 PSI at the nozzle is the recommended working pressure for fast cleaning. A single 3/8″ nozzle needs roughly a 50 HP compressor on its own. Media selection is covered in our blast media chart.
Options
- Storage hopper (specify cu ft) with high-level detector
- Depressurization switch inside the blast room, and air-only switch for blow-off
- Supplied-air respirator hood with breathing-air filtration and CO detection (RPB respirators)
- Catwalk around the pot platform
- Customer-supplied pot integration into a Kresco blast room
Starter Kits and PPE
Three starter kits complete a new pot: a preassembled blast hose kit (25′, 50′, 75′ or 100′ hose, Chicago coupling, nozzle holder and a double-venturi boron nozzle from 3/16″ to 1/2″), a whip hose kit (12-1/2″ whip hose, couplings and remote-control extension) and a PPE kit (RPB Nova 3 respirator, Radex 6-stage breathing-air filter and C40 climate control). We also supply leather and nylon blast suits, Kevlar blast gloves, gas monitors, and recyclable abrasive media (steel grit, steel shot, aluminum oxide, glass bead, organic media) in 50–55 lb bags or 40-bag skids. Kresco is an authorized GVS/RPB distributor.

Maintenance and Spare Parts
Kresco’s SBP maintenance schedule is short: empty the water separator daily and pressurize the pot for a leak check; every six months inspect the pressure-relief plug and exhaust hose, the plunger and plunger seal, and service the abrasive metering valve (check the urethane tube on AR8 valves); yearly, check the access door gasket and cover seal. We stock the wear parts:
