VpCI Powder Pouch, 35 ft³, Multimetal – 50 per Drum (Cortec® VpCI®-308)

Description

The VpCI®-308 Pouch is a breathable Tyvek® pouch of multi-metal VpCI powder that protects ferrous and yellow metals across a full cubic meter (35.3 ft³) of void. Drop it into a valve body, a pump casing, a pipe run or a crate, seal the enclosure, and the vapor does the rest; there is no fogging equipment and nothing to clean off at start-up.

VpCI-308 is the high-solubility, high-volatility member of Cortec’s powder range, so it charges a void quickly, and unlike VpCI-609 it is safe on copper and bronze. The Tyvek membrane lets the inhibitor molecules out while keeping the powder in, and the molecules condense as a molecular layer on every metal surface in the sealed space. In the Cortec Product Consultation Guide the VpCI-308 powder is rated 5, immersion service, on carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum alloys, galvanized steel, copper, brass and solder. It is nitrite-, phosphate- and chromate-free. How to apply the VpCI-308 Pouch

1. Surface preparation. SSPC-SP-1: clean and completely dry.
2. Calculate the dose. One pouch per 35 ft³ (1 m³) of void. For larger spaces use several pouches spaced evenly so the vapor reaches every section; for long pipe runs place a pouch every few meters or at each capped end.
3. Place. Do not open the pouch. Lay or hang it inside the enclosure where it will stay dry and where it can be retrieved later.
4. Seal. Close every opening with pipe caps, CorrCaps, MilCorr shrink film or VpCI-126 bags; a sealed space is what holds the vapor concentration.
5. Protection. Up to 24 months in a sealed enclosure. Avoid water ingress.
6. Return to service. Remove the pouches. No cleaning or degreasing is required.
7. Storage. Keep unused pouches in the sealed drum below 150 °F (65 °C); shelf life up to 24 months unopened.

Where it fits in the Cortec line

The pouch is the no-equipment way to deliver a fogging powder. For large or complex systems, fog loose VmCI-307 (multi-metal) or VpCI-309 (ferrous) at 0.5 oz/ft³, or use VpCI-609 where the vessel is also hydrotested. For a liquid fog, VpCI-337. Field notes

A Louisiana shipyard needed 4 to 6 weeks of internal protection for a hydraulic tank but could not compatibility-test a liquid rust preventive against the customer’s fluid in the 7 days available, and the tank would be welded, not cleaned, before filling. VpCI-308 pouches tethered inside during shipping and welding, removed before fill, delivered it rust-free. (Cortec Case History #774)

At a Lima, Ohio refinery a nitrogen purge on new equipment idled for three years failed early and the internals rusted. The recovery package fogged VpCI-337 under a blower draft, sprayed electrical boxes with ElectriCorr VpCI-239 plus a VpCI-105 emitter each, put CorShield VpCI-369 on hinges and bolt threads and VpCI-308 pouches in external voids, then heat-sealed everything in MilCorr until startup. An Ohio refinery idled millions of dollars of new equipment for two years, much of it outdoors: VpCI-337 fogged into piping and voids, VpCI-111 emitters and VpCI-308 pouches in enclosed spaces, ElectriCorr VpCI-239 on electricals, and everything wrapped and sealed in MilCorr for the two-year hold.
