Breathable VpCI Pouch, 8 ft³ – 100 per Carton (Cortec® Cor-Pak®)

$726.00

The larger breathable VpCI pouch — eight cubic feet of multimetal protection for up to two years.

SKU: CORTEC-10500017 Categories: ,

Description

The Cor-Pak® 8 ft³ pouch is the larger of Cortec’s two breathable VpCI® powder pouches: a 4.0″ × 6.9″ patented non-woven pouch of multimetal vapor-phase corrosion inhibitor that protects up to 8 cubic feet of enclosed space for up to 24 months. The VpCI vaporizes through the fabric, spreads through the carton or crate and adsorbs on every metal surface as a molecular layer; the powder stays inside, so there is no dust on the parts and nothing to clean off at unpacking.

Cortec sells this pouch alongside the 1 ft³ Cor-Pak 1-MUL; the data sheet treats them as one family (1-MUL/8-MUL) with the same chemistry and the same instructions, differing only in dose. It protects carbon steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel, aluminum and its alloys, and copper and its alloys, so mixed-metal assemblies can share one crate. Because the protective layer is self-replenishing, a package can be opened for inspection and resealed without losing protection. In the Cortec Product Consultation Guide the Cor-Pak pouches are rated 1, enclosed: they work inside a sealed bag, box or container, not on an open shelf. The 8 ft³ pouch replaces oil dips, cosmoline-type coatings and desiccant packs on cartons and small crates, and it is the format to use when one insert per carton is easier to control on a packing line than several small ones.

Typical applications

  • Completed assemblies, parts and components
  • Parts in antistatic packages
  • Motors and mechanical controls
  • Precision machined or stamped parts
  • Marine and commercial electronic equipment
  • Electrical equipment and controls
  • Tools, spare parts and hardware kits
  • Corrugated boxes, plastic wrap or bags, wood or metal containers

How to use the Cor-Pak 8 ft³ pouch

  1. Start with clean, dry parts. Wash off coolant, fingerprints and salts and dry completely; the pouch has desiccant and VpCI action, but it cannot fix standing water or process residue left on the metal.
  2. Size the dose. One pouch per 8 ft³ of package volume: one per 2′ × 2′ × 2′ carton, eight spread around a 4′ × 4′ × 4′ crate. For boxes under 1 ft³ use Cor-Pak 1-MUL; for equipment voids above 35 ft³ use VpCI-308 or EcoPouch. Use two pouches per volume for aggressive marine or overseas conditions.
  3. Insert without opening. Drop the pouch in by hand or from an automatic dispenser; placement is not critical as long as it shares the air space with the metal and nothing solid blocks the vapor path.
  4. Close and seal the package shortly afterward. Seal the VpCI-126 bag, tape the carton, or shrink the MilCorr or VpCI-126 HP UV film; a sealed enclosure with minimal free air holds the VpCI concentration.
  5. Allow the void to saturate. The inhibitor charges the air space and condenses on every metal surface within about a day. After shipping, keep the package closed for about 24 hours after it arrives so it can acclimate to the building before it is opened.
  6. Reopen and reclose as needed. The molecular layer is replenished by continuous vapor protection once the package is reclosed; protection is up to 24 months.
  7. Return to service. Remove the part; no degreasing or cleaning is required. Discard the pouch.
  8. Store unused pouches sealed. Shelf life is 2 years at 40–100 °F in the closed carton.

Combining with other VpCI packaging

The standard carton system is a VpCI-126 Blue bag liner or 126 tubing with one Cor-Pak 8 ft³ pouch inside, or a plain corrugated box lined with VpCI-146 paper and the pouch on top of the load; for outdoor storage the pouch goes inside a MilCorr or VpCI-126 HP UV shrink wrap. Where humidity is the driver add Desicorr VpCI. Parts should be clean and dry before they are packaged; see the Build-All and Magido aqueous parts washers, and where parts sit for more than a day or two before packaging, a water-based rust preventative such as VpCI-377 or BioCorr bridges the gap.

Where it fits in the Cortec line

Cortec’s insert ladder is dosed by volume: Cor-Pak tablets at 0.25 ft³ each, Cor-Pak 1-MUL pouches at 1 ft³, the Cor-Pak 8 ft³ pouch, and the 35 ft³ powder pouches, VpCI-308 for all metals including copper and bronze and EcoPouch (VpCI-609 Bio) for ferrous metals and aluminum. Desicorr VpCI adds desiccant capacity where humidity is the driver; the VpCI-130 series foams and BioPad are the flat-pad alternatives with ten times the VpCI loading of paper; VpCI-101 and VpCI-111 are the self-stick emitters for electrical cabinets. Field notes

A Louisiana shipyard needed 4 to 6 weeks of internal protection for a hydraulic tank but could not compatibility-test a liquid rust preventive against the customer’s fluid in the 7 days available, and the tank would be welded, not cleaned, before filling. VpCI-308 pouches tethered inside during shipping and welding, removed before fill, delivered it rust-free. (Cortec Case History #774)

A Northeast U.S. aircraft-engine shop stopped exterior corrosion and staining in storage and shipping with a large VpCI-126 gusseted bag over the pallet framework, Desicorr NW VpCI pouches inside, and for hot, humid destinations a 3-second spray of VpCI-337 aerosol before sealing. No more oil on bare metal. (Cortec Case History #748)

A Grand Rapids, Michigan mold shop shipped a 40,000 lb two-cavity P20 injection mold to Europe needing 5 to 6 weeks of protection: mold set on a cut sheet of MilCorr, cavity and core lightly sprayed with EcoAir tool-and-die rust preventive, one VpCI-309 pouch inside, then closed, locked and shrink-wrapped. No corrosion, and the cost was about half that of grease or oil. (Cortec Case History #626)
