Description

Cor-Pak® VpCI® Stretch Film is Cortec’s patented low-density polyethylene stretch wrap with vapor-phase corrosion inhibitor built into the film, supplied here as a 12″ × 1,500′ 1 mil roll, the narrow hand roll for bundling bar, tube, small skids and individual components by hand. It unitizes the load and protects it in the same pass: the film clings to itself, holds the parts in place, and releases VpCI that condenses on the metal it covers. It is transparent, leaves no residue on the parts, and comes off like any stretch wrap with no degreasing.

Cor-Pak stretch film protects aluminum, galvanized steel, carbon steel, silicon steel, stainless steel, copper, brass and cast iron, and is rated 2, inside storage, on all of them in the Cortec Product Consultation Guide. Cortec positions it for short-term protection during shipping and in-plant storage: a stretch wrap is not a sealed enclosure, so it tracks ambient humidity rather than blocking it, and for shipment or storage beyond a few months the standard recipe is a VpCI-126 top and bottom sheet or a full VpCI-126 over-bag. It replaces plain stretch wrap plus a separate oiling or bagging step, and the machine-grade film is fully recyclable. Hand-wrap rolls are 1 mil (100 gauge) and come four rolls to a carton in 12″, 15″ and 18″ widths; the 20″ × 4,500′ machine-grade roll runs on turntable and rotary-arm wrappers; Cortec also lists 1.5 mil × 3,000′ and 2.0 mil × 2,250′ machine rolls in 20″ and 30″ widths.

How to use Cor-Pak VpCI Stretch Film

  1. Prepare the load. Parts must be clean, dry and at room temperature, with no standing water or wet cutting fluid, stacked stable and square on the pallet.
  2. Lay a VpCI-126 base sheet. Put a VpCI-126 sheet on the pallet deck before loading, and VpCI-146 paper or Cor-Pak EX between layers that touch.
  3. Wrap by hand. Anchor the film tail under a corner of the load, then walk the load with tension on the roll so the film stretches and clings: two or three wraps at the base that catch the pallet deck, a spiral up at 50% overlap, and back down. Stretching thins the film, so a heavily stretched 1 mil wrap carries less inhibitor per square foot; keep it moderate.
  4. Cap the load. For anything beyond a short domestic haul, lay a VpCI-126 top sheet over the load and bring the last wraps up over it, or slide a VpCI-126 gusseted bag over the wrapped load and tape it to the pallet; that enclosure turns a stretch wrap into a sealed VCI package.
  5. Let the vapor work. The VpCI condenses on the metal the film covers and, inside a capped or bagged load, saturates the enclosed air and reaches surfaces the film does not touch. Protection lasts as long as the wrap stays intact.
  6. Unwrap and dispose. Cut the film off and use the parts; no residue. Machine-grade film is fully recyclable.
  7. Store the packaging. Original packaging, indoors, out of direct sunlight, ambient temperature.

Combining with other VpCI packaging

The standard shipping pallet is a VpCI-126 bottom and top sheet or a VpCI-126 gusseted over-bag, VpCI-146 paper or Cor-Pak EX between layers, and Cor-Pak stretch film as the tensioning layer; for a pallet that sits more than a few months add a VpCI-132 foam pad or BioPad under the top sheet. Sharp or heavy loads that would cut a 1 mil film get EcoWeave or Cor-Pak VpCI bubbles on the corners first. Mark the pallet with VpCI Protected tape. Where it fits in the Cortec line

Cor-Pak stretch film is the short-term, load-containment member of Cortec’s film range. VpCI-126 Blue bags, liners and tubing are the sealed enclosure for storage up to five years; Cor-Pak EX is the thin interleaving film; EcoWeave is the woven sheet for heavy or sharp loads; MilCorr is the shrink film for outdoor lay-up. Field notes

An Ohio can maker wrapped and banded sheared tinplate by hand until a trial on an 1,840 lb load: a 1 mil Cor-Pak top sheet, then 50 machine wraps of 2 mil Cor-Pak VpCI stretch film in under 3 minutes using 18 oz of film. The load passed forklift tilt, emergency-stop and 45-degree tip tests and a multi-stop truck delivery with no slippage and no rust. (Cortec Case History #200)

A Wisconsin aerosol filler found steel cans arriving in plain stretch film rusted at the neck within its 4 to 8 week lead time, ruining the seal. Incoming pallets are stripped and rewrapped in Cor-Pak VpCI stretch film, and the cans keep a year or more. (Cortec Case History #384)

A North Carolina precision-rod maker lost its imported specialty VCI paper during the COVID shipping disruption. Machine-grade 1.5 mil Cor-Pak VpCI stretch film, stronger and stretchier than VCI crepe paper, was converted to small rolls for the wrapping machine and met every requirement from domestic stock.
