Description

EcoWeave® woven VpCI® bags are the bag format of Cortec’s high-density woven polypropylene scrim coated with vapor-phase corrosion inhibitor, supplied here in a carton of 50 bags, for parts too heavy or too sharp for a film bag. Drop a casting, a forging or a bundle of machined parts in, close the mouth, and the woven scrim carries the weight and shrugs off the edges while the VpCI coating inside vaporizes and condenses on every metal surface. The bags are strong enough to reuse as in-plant totes, and the part comes out ready to use with no degreasing.

EcoWeave protects carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum and cast iron. In the Cortec Product Consultation Guide it is rated 2, inside storage, on carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum alloys, galvanized steel, copper, brass and solder: use it for enclosed packaging, uncovered indoor storage, and shipment inside a crate or container; for uncovered outdoor lay-up use MilCorr shrink film. Cortec positions EcoWeave for the applications where standard film fails: very heavy or sharp equipment and parts, coils and slit steel, castings with flash, and packages that are dragged, forklifted and re-handled. Woven, it does not zipper-tear from a puncture the way a film does, and it is strong enough to reuse for in-plant totes and returnable covers. It replaces plain woven poly tarps and paper-and-oil wraps, and it is recyclable. Cortec sews CorrCaps, the elastic-edged VpCI covers for exposed brake assemblies, from EcoWeave and VpCI-126.

How to use EcoWeave

  1. Prepare the parts. Parts must be clean, dry and at room temperature, with no standing water or cutting fluid; knock off loose scale and swarf that would abrade the coating from inside.
  2. Size and load. Choose a bag the part or bundle fits into with room to close the mouth; the coated (VpCI) face is inside. Load heavy parts on a pallet or in a tote rather than lifting the loaded bag, and keep sharp edges off the seams. One layer, fully enclosed, minimal trapped air.
  3. Close the bag. Fold the mouth over and tape it with VpCI Protected tape, or tie it off; for shipment tape the fold flat against the load. The bag is not heat sealable; where a full moisture seal is needed, put a VpCI-126 liner inside or a VpCI-126 over-bag around it.
  4. Let the vapor work. Once enclosed, the VpCI vaporizes from the coated inner face, saturates the air and condenses as a molecular layer on every metal surface, including surfaces the sheet does not touch. Protection lasts as long as the enclosure stays closed and intact.
  5. Unpack and reuse. Open the cover and use the parts; nothing to degrease. An intact cover can be reused within its protection period; replace it when the inner face is abraded through. The material is recyclable.
  6. Store the packaging. Original packaging, indoors, out of direct sunlight, ambient temperature.

Combining with other VpCI packaging

The standard heavy-load system is EcoWeave as the outer enclosure, VpCI-146 paper or Cor-Pak EX between parts that touch, and a VpCI-132 foam pad, BioPad or VpCI-111 emitter in the void for long storage. Where a moisture seal matters more than abrasion resistance, put a VpCI-126 gusseted liner inside the cover, or shrink-wrap the covered load in MilCorr for outdoor storage. Close and mark with VpCI Protected tape and labels. Parts should be clean and dry first; see Build-All and Magido aqueous parts washers, followed by VpCI-377 or BioCorr for a dry-film rust preventative under the packaging.

Where it fits in the Cortec line

EcoWeave is the strength-and-tear-resistance member of Cortec’s film range. VpCI-126 Blue is the general-purpose LDPE film for bags, liners and tubing; Cor-Pak EX is the thin HDPE interleaf; Cor-Pak stretch film unitizes pallets; CorShield VpCI non-woven fabric is the soft, non-scratch alternative for finished surfaces; MilCorr is the 10 mil shrink film for outdoor lay-up.
